Black people in America, some of whom are LGBTQ, are systematically oppressed and often live in daily fear for their lives. It is no accident that Pride Organizations and Groups are looking through the prism of the Black Lives Matter movement in 2020. Did you know it was trans women of color who led the riots at Stonewall, catalyzing the national movement we call “Pride” today? Before Stonewall, trans people were getting arrested and spurred the Compton Cafeteria Riots in 1966. Remember the White Night Riots after America’s justice system failed Harvey Milk? We are called to stand in solidarity with Black Lives Matter and all struggles to fight racism. Let’s shine a light on this moment and keep it bright and steady for the entire world to see.
